Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago Guide
Scarborough, the vibrant capital of Tobago, offers a captivating blend of Caribbean charm, historical significance, and natural beauty. Perched on a hillside overlooking Rockly Bay, the city boasts stunning panoramic views and a relaxed atmosphere that instantly puts visitors at ease. Explore its historic fort, wander through bustling markets, and soak up the sun on nearby pristine beaches. Beyond its picturesque setting, Scarborough serves as the island's commercial and administrative hub. Here, you'll find a mix of modern amenities and traditional Tobagonian culture. From sampling local delicacies to immersing yourself in the island's rich history, Scarborough provides a perfect starting point for discovering all that Tobago has to offer.
Food & Cuisine
Tobagonian cuisine is a delightful fusion of African, Indian, and European influences, resulting in a unique and flavorful culinary experience. Be sure to try the island's signature dish, crab and dumplings, a savory stew simmered in coconut milk and spices. Other must-try dishes include roti (a flatbread filled with curried meat or vegetables), callaloo soup (a creamy soup made with dasheen leaves), and pelau (a rice dish cooked with meat, pigeon peas, and coconut milk). For a taste of local flavors, head to the Scarborough Market, where you can find fresh produce, spices, and street food vendors serving up delicious Tobagonian specialties. Miss Jean's Restaurant is a popular spot for authentic local cuisine, while Cafe Coco offers a more upscale dining experience with stunning ocean views.
Nightlife
Scarborough's nightlife is more laid-back than that of Trinidad, but still offers plenty of opportunities for entertainment. Several bars and restaurants along Milford Road and in the Shirvan Road area offer live music, karaoke, and DJ sets. For a more authentic experience, check out local rum shops, where you can mingle with locals and sample a variety of Caribbean rums. Weekends are typically the liveliest, with many establishments staying open late. While there aren't any large nightclubs, the atmosphere is generally friendly and welcoming.

However, even during the wet season, there are still plenty of sunny days, and the island is lush and green.
