Transportation
Mdina is a pedestrian-only city, meaning no cars are allowed within its walls (except for residents). Public transportation to Mdina is primarily by bus. Several bus routes connect Mdina to other parts of Malta, including Valletta, Sliema, and the airport. The main bus stop is located just outside the city walls in Rabat. There are no trams or subway/metro systems in Malta.
Airport
The Malta International Airport (MLA) is the main airport serving Malta. It is located approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) southeast of Mdina. Transportation from the airport to Mdina is primarily by taxi, pre-booked airport transfer, or public bus. The X1 bus route directly connects the airport to Rabat, which is just outside Mdina's walls. Taxis are readily available outside the airport terminal.
