Witness the Smoke That Thunders: Victoria Falls National Park Guide

Prepare to be awestruck by Victoria Falls National Park, home to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World: the magnificent Victoria Falls. Known locally as "Mosi-oa-Tunya" – "The Smoke That Thunders" – the falls are a breathtaking spectacle of raw power and natural beauty. The park offers various vantage points to witness the cascading water and the vibrant rainforest it sustains. The history of the area dates back centuries, with indigenous tribes inhabiting the region long before European exploration. David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is credited with "discovering" the falls in 1855 and naming them after Queen Victoria. The falls quickly became a popular tourist destination, and the surrounding area developed into a thriving town. Today, the park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its exceptional natural significance. Victoria Falls National Park offers a plethora of activities for adventurous travelers. Take a guided tour along the various viewpoints, offering different perspectives of the falls. For the daring, consider bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge, white-water rafting on the Zambezi River, or taking a scenic helicopter flight over the falls. The park also offers opportunities for wildlife viewing, with elephants, hippos, and various bird species inhabiting the area. While in the area, sample local Zimbabwean cuisine, including sadza (a maize-based staple) and grilled meats.
