Reach for the Sky: Ascend to the Peaks of the Andes Guide

The Teleférico de Mérida, also known as Mukumbarí, is a record-breaking cable car system that ascends to the breathtaking heights of Pico Espejo in the Venezuelan Andes. As the highest and longest cable car in the world, it offers an unparalleled experience for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts. The journey takes you through diverse ecosystems, from lush cloud forests to barren alpine landscapes, providing stunning panoramic views along the way. The original Teleférico de Mérida was built in the 1950s and operated for over five decades before undergoing a complete reconstruction. The new Mukumbarí, inaugurated in 2016, boasts state-of-the-art technology and enhanced safety features. The cable car system is divided into five sections, each with its own station, allowing visitors to explore different altitudes and environments. At each station, visitors can disembark and explore the surrounding area. Activities include hiking, photography, and simply enjoying the spectacular views. At the summit, Pico Espejo, you can experience the unique alpine environment and, on clear days, see for miles across the Andes. Be sure to dress warmly, as temperatures at the higher altitudes can be significantly colder. While there are limited food options at the higher stations, it's best to bring your own snacks and water.

Transportation

Take the Trolleybus (Trolebús) to the 'Terminal del Teleférico' station. From there, it's a short walk to the Teleférico entrance. Local buses also serve the area around the terminal.
