Established in 1878 by John Lorenzo Hubbell, the trading post served as a vital link between the Navajo community and the outside world. Hubbell fostered a relationship of trust and respect with the Navajo, learning their language and customs. The post became a center for trade, where Navajo weavers exchanged their rugs, silverwork, and other goods for supplies.
