Manatee Lagoon - An FPL Eco-Discovery Center Guide

Manatee Lagoon: A Warm Water Haven for Gentle Giants Guide

Discover the magic of Manatee Lagoon, an FPL Eco-Discovery Center, where you can observe Florida's beloved manatees in their natural habitat. This unique attraction offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of these gentle giants, especially during the cooler months when they seek refuge in the warm, clean water outflow from Florida Power & Light Company's (FPL) Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center. More than just a viewing area, Manatee Lagoon is an educational center dedicated to raising awareness about manatees and their environment. Manatee Lagoon was created as part of FPL's commitment to environmental stewardship. The warm water outflow from the adjacent power plant provides a crucial refuge for manatees during the winter months, when water temperatures in the Intracoastal Waterway can drop too low for them to survive. The center was designed to provide optimal viewing opportunities while also educating visitors about manatee conservation and the importance of protecting their habitat. It's a testament to how industry and environmental awareness can coexist. At Manatee Lagoon, you can observe manatees from various viewing platforms, including an elevated observation deck that offers panoramic views of the lagoon. The center also features interactive exhibits, educational displays, and a gift shop. During the cooler months, you're almost guaranteed to see manatees congregating in the warm water. Even if manatees aren't present, the center offers plenty of information about these fascinating creatures and the efforts being made to protect them. The center also hosts special events and educational programs throughout the year.
