Trail of the Cedars Guide
Trail of the Cedars: A Whispering Walk Through Ancient Giants Guide
Welcome to the Trail of the Cedars, a must-see for any visitor to Glacier National Park! This easy, accessible loop trail immerses you in a lush, ancient forest dominated by towering western red cedars and hemlocks. The air is cool and damp, filled with the earthy scent of decaying needles and the gentle murmur of Avalanche Creek. It's a sensory experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and connected to nature. The trail is mostly flat and partially boardwalked, making it suitable for all ages and abilities. The Trail of the Cedars owes its unique ecosystem to the high levels of moisture in the area. Avalanche Creek, fed by snowmelt and rainfall, creates a perfect environment for these giant trees to thrive. While the trail itself doesn't have a long or particularly dramatic history, the trees themselves are living history, some dating back hundreds of years. Imagine the stories they could tell! The trail also provides access to Avalanche Lake Trail, a more strenuous hike leading to a stunning alpine lake nestled beneath towering cliffs. Activities on the Trail of the Cedars are primarily focused on enjoying the natural beauty. Take your time, breathe in the fresh air, and observe the intricate details of the forest floor. Photography is a popular activity, as the light filtering through the canopy creates stunning visual effects. The trail also provides access to Avalanche Lake Trail, a more strenuous hike leading to a stunning alpine lake nestled beneath towering cliffs. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition associated with the trail itself, nearby Apgar Village offers dining options with classic American fare.
