Cahoon Hollow Beach Guide
Cahoon Hollow: Where the Dunes Meet the Waves Guide
Cahoon Hollow Beach, also known as "The Hollow," is a quintessential Cape Cod experience. Famous for its towering sand dunes that plunge dramatically down to the Atlantic Ocean, it's a favorite spot for surfers, sunbathers, and anyone seeking breathtaking coastal scenery. The beach's lively atmosphere, often fueled by the nearby Beachcomber restaurant and bar, makes it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. While Cahoon Hollow doesn't have a deep historical narrative like some other Cape Cod landmarks, its significance lies in its natural beauty and its role as a gathering place for generations. The dunes themselves are a product of glacial activity and ongoing coastal erosion, constantly reshaping the landscape. The Beachcomber, a landmark in its own right, has been a fixture for decades, providing food, drinks, and live music, contributing to the beach's vibrant culture. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities at Cahoon Hollow. Surfing is a major draw, with consistent waves attracting surfers of all skill levels. Sunbathing and swimming are also popular, although the Atlantic waters can be chilly. Climbing the dunes offers stunning panoramic views, but be prepared for a challenging climb! The Beachcomber offers a full menu of seafood and casual fare, along with a wide selection of drinks. Their raw bar is particularly popular.
Transportation
Due to its location, the most convenient way to reach Cahoon Hollow Beach is by car. Parking is available at the top of the dunes, but it fills up quickly, especially during peak season. A daily parking fee applies. The Flex bus route also stops nearby, but check the schedule for availability and frequency.
