International Car Forest of the Last Church Guide
Explore Automotive Art at the International Car Forest Guide
The International Car Forest of the Last Church is an unusual and captivating outdoor art installation located just outside of Goldfield, Nevada, near Tonopah. This sprawling "forest" is comprised of over 40 vehicles, including cars, trucks, and buses, all creatively arranged and decorated. It's a truly unique and quirky roadside attraction that appeals to art enthusiasts, photographers, and anyone looking for something off the beaten path. The Car Forest is the brainchild of Mark Rippie, also known as "Chili." He began creating the installation in the early 2000s, transforming the desert landscape into a whimsical automotive graveyard. With the help of Chad Sorg, the project grew into the large-scale art piece it is today. The vehicles are often stacked, buried, painted, and otherwise manipulated, creating a surreal and thought-provoking environment. While the "Last Church" part of the name is somewhat enigmatic, it adds to the overall mystique of the site. Visitors to the International Car Forest can freely explore the grounds and admire the creative arrangements. It's a fantastic place for photography, offering countless opportunities to capture unique and artistic shots. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, as the terrain can be uneven. While there are no formal tours or activities, the sheer scale and creativity of the installation provide ample entertainment. Remember to bring water, especially during the warmer months, as the desert sun can be intense. There are no specific culinary traditions associated with the Car Forest itself, but Goldfield and Tonopah offer dining options.
