Trapp Family Lodge: A Sound of Music Legacy in the Green Mountains Guide

The Trapp Family Lodge, nestled in the picturesque hills of Stowe, Vermont, is more than just a hotel; it's a living testament to the inspiring story of the von Trapp family, made famous by "The Sound of Music." Offering breathtaking views, a rich history, and a wide array of activities, the Lodge provides a unique and unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. The story of the Trapp Family Lodge began when the von Trapp family, after escaping Nazi-occupied Austria, settled in Stowe in 1942. Drawn to the area's resemblance to their native Salzburg, they initially farmed and taught music. Eventually, they opened their home to guests, and the Lodge was born. A devastating fire destroyed the original lodge in 1980, but it was rebuilt by Johannes von Trapp, one of the original von Trapp children, and continues to be run by the family today. At the Trapp Family Lodge, you can immerse yourself in the von Trapp family's legacy. Take a guided history tour to learn more about their incredible journey. Hike or bike the extensive trail network that winds through the property's 2,500 acres. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride, or relax by the outdoor pool. The Lodge also boasts a renowned brewery and bierhall, offering authentic Austrian-style beers and cuisine. Don't miss the opportunity to sample traditional Austrian dishes like schnitzel, sausages, and strudel, all made with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
