Located in the heart of Forest Park, this free museum boasts an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and archaeological artifacts. From ancient Egyptian artifacts to contemporary works of art, you'll find something to inspire and delight your senses. Prepare to be transported through time and across continents as you explore the diverse and captivating world of art. The Saint Louis Art Museum's origins can be traced back to the 1879 founding of the Saint Louis School and Museum of Fine Arts. The museum's current building, designed by renowned architect Cass Gilbert, was originally constructed as the Palace of Fine Arts for the 1904 World's Fair. In 1909, the City of St. Louis took ownership of the building and established the Saint Louis Art Museum as a free public institution. Since then, the museum has continued to grow and evolve, expanding its collection and enhancing its educational programs. Embark on a journey through art history as you explore the museum's diverse galleries. Admire the works of renowned artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, and Picasso. Discover ancient artifacts from Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Explore the museum's collection of American art, including works by Thomas Eakins and Georgia O'Keeffe. The museum also offers a variety of special exhibitions, lectures, and workshops throughout the year. While the museum doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, Cafe St. Louis offers a delightful dining experience with a menu inspired by the museum's collection.
