Hiking The Subway offers two distinct options: a top-down hike requiring rappelling skills and a permit, or a bottom-up hike that is less technical but still challenging. The bottom-up hike involves wading through the creek, scrambling over rocks, and navigating slippery surfaces. Be prepared to get wet! Transportation
The Subway is accessible via the Left Fork Trailhead. From the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, take the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway (Highway 9) east. Turn north onto North Fork Road (also known as Chamberlain Ranch Road). Follow this road for approximately 8 miles to the trailhead. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended for the last few miles of the road. Parking is limited, so arrive early. Shuttle services are not available directly to the trailhead.
