Emerald Pools Trail Guide
Oasis in the Desert: Hike the Emerald Pools Trail in Zion Guide
Escape the desert heat and discover a lush oasis within Zion National Park on the Emerald Pools Trail. This popular trail offers a variety of hiking options, from easy paved paths to more challenging climbs, leading to a series of stunning waterfalls and emerald-colored pools. It's a perfect way to experience the diverse beauty of Zion Canyon. The Emerald Pools Trail has been a favorite among Zion visitors for decades. The pools are formed by the Virgin River and its tributaries cascading over sandstone cliffs, creating a unique microclimate that supports a variety of plant and animal life. The trail has been maintained and improved over the years to provide access to these natural wonders while protecting the delicate ecosystem. The Emerald Pools Trail offers several hiking options. The Lower Emerald Pool Trail is a short, paved loop accessible to all. The Middle Emerald Pool Trail involves a moderate climb to a viewpoint overlooking the lower pool and a waterfall. The Upper Emerald Pool Trail is a more strenuous hike that leads to the upper pool and a secluded waterfall. Remember to check trail conditions before you go, as sections may be closed due to rockfall or flooding.
