Whether you're seeking a scenic day trip or a multi-day adventure, the Alaska Railroad provides a comfortable and captivating way to explore the Alaskan wilderness. Prepare to be mesmerized by the breathtaking views and the chance to spot wildlife along the way. The Alaska Railroad's history is deeply intertwined with the development of Alaska itself. Construction began in 1915, driven by the need to transport resources and connect communities across the vast territory. It played a crucial role in supporting the war effort during World War II and continues to be a vital transportation link for both freight and passengers. Today, the railroad stands as a testament to the ingenuity and perseverance of those who built it, and a living piece of Alaskan history. Tourists can choose from a variety of routes and packages, including the Coastal Classic Train which travels between Anchorage and Seward. This route offers stunning views of the Turnagain Arm, glaciers, and the Kenai Mountains. Activities include wildlife viewing (keep an eye out for moose, bears, and eagles!), photography, and simply relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Some packages include stops for hiking, kayaking, or glacier cruises. While onboard, enjoy dining options featuring Alaskan cuisine, such as fresh seafood and locally sourced ingredients.
