Ozette Triangle Trail: Hike Through Time and Tide Guide
Embark on a captivating journey through time and nature along the Ozette Triangle Trail, a 9-mile loop that combines coastal forest hiking with stunning stretches of pristine beach. Located near Sekiu, Washington, this trail offers a unique blend of wilderness exploration and historical intrigue, making it a must-do for outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Prepare to be mesmerized by ancient petroglyphs, rugged coastline, and the ever-present roar of the Pacific Ocean. The Ozette Triangle Trail holds significant historical importance. The coastal sections of the trail pass through the site of the ancient Makah village of Ozette, which was buried by a mudslide centuries ago. Archaeological excavations in the 1970s unearthed a treasure trove of artifacts, providing invaluable insights into the lives and culture of the Makah people. These artifacts are now housed in the Makah Cultural and Research Center in Neah Bay, offering a deeper understanding of the region's rich history. The Ozette Triangle Trail offers a diverse range of activities. Hike through lush coastal forests, descend to the beach, and explore the rugged coastline. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including bald eagles, seals, and whales (during migration season). The highlight of the trail is the opportunity to view ancient petroglyphs carved into the rocks at Wedding Rocks and other locations along the beach. Remember to treat these historical treasures with respect and avoid touching them. Beachcombing is also a popular activity, but be mindful of the fragile ecosystem and leave no trace behind. While the trail itself doesn't have specific culinary traditions, packing a picnic lunch to enjoy on the beach is highly recommended.
