This isn't your typical museum; it's a lush, forested park populated by life-sized dinosaur sculptures. Prehistoric Gardens was the brainchild of E.V. "Ernie" Nelson, who began building the park in the 1950s. Nelson was fascinated by dinosaurs and wanted to create a place where people could see them up close. He meticulously researched each dinosaur and worked with artists to create realistic sculptures. The park opened in 1955 and has been a beloved Oregon Coast landmark ever since. While the science behind dinosaur depictions has evolved since the 1950s, the park retains its nostalgic charm and historical significance as a classic roadside attraction. At Prehistoric Gardens, you can explore the winding trails, marvel at the life-sized dinosaur sculptures, and learn about each species from the informative signs. Transportation
Prehistoric Gardens is located on Highway 101, approximately 2 miles south of Port Orford. It's easily accessible by car, and there is ample parking available. Unfortunately, the CoastRiders bus service does not have a stop directly at Prehistoric Gardens, so driving is the most convenient way to get there.
