Get ready for a day of hands-on fun at the Please Touch Museum! This isn't your typical "look but don't touch" museum. Here, kids are encouraged to explore, experiment, and learn through play. Designed for children ages seven and under, the museum offers a variety of interactive exhibits that spark creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning. From a miniature grocery store to a life-sized SEPTA bus, the Please Touch Museum provides a safe and stimulating environment for young minds to thrive. The Please Touch Museum has a rich history, beginning in 1976 as a small, grassroots effort to provide children with engaging learning experiences. Over the years, it grew in popularity and eventually moved to its current location in Fairmount Park's Memorial Hall, a beautifully restored building that was originally constructed for the 1876 Centennial Exposition. The museum's mission remains the same: to enrich children's lives by creating learning opportunities through play. Prepare for a whirlwind of activity! Kids can climb aboard a real SEPTA bus, shop for groceries in a miniature supermarket, build structures with oversized blocks, and create masterpieces in the art studio. The museum also features a carousel, a restored 1908 Dentzel carousel, which is a must-ride for all visitors. Special events and programs are offered throughout the year, so be sure to check the museum's website for the latest schedule. While the museum doesn't have a dedicated restaurant, there's a cafe offering kid-friendly snacks and meals.
Transportation
The Please Touch Museum is located in Fairmount Park. The easiest way to reach it by public transportation is via SEPTA's Route 32 bus. You can catch the Route 32 bus from various locations in Center City. Get off at the stop near Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park. From there, it's a short walk to the museum entrance. Alternatively, you can take the Phlash bus during its operating season, which also stops near the museum.
