Transportation
Water Wheel Falls is best accessed by car. From Payson, take Highway 87 north for approximately 10 miles. Turn left onto Houston Mesa Road (Forest Road 64). Follow Houston Mesa Road for about 8 miles, then turn left onto Water Wheel Road (Forest Road 512). The parking area for the falls is located at the end of Water Wheel Road. Be aware that the road can be rough and may require a high-clearance vehicle, especially after rain. Parking can be limited, especially on weekends and holidays, so arrive early.
