Hike with a View: Explore Ouray's Stunning Perimeter Trail Guide
Lace up your hiking boots and prepare for an unforgettable adventure on the Ouray Perimeter Trail! This scenic 6-mile loop encircles the town, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding San Juan Mountains, cascading waterfalls, and the charming town of Ouray nestled below. The trail is a moderate hike, with some steep sections and rocky terrain, but the rewards are well worth the effort. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a casual walker, the Perimeter Trail provides an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Ouray. The Perimeter Trail wasn't always the well-maintained path it is today. It was originally a series of interconnected mining trails and animal paths that were gradually linked together by dedicated volunteers and the City of Ouray. Over the years, they have worked tirelessly to improve the trail, adding bridges, steps, and signage to make it more accessible and enjoyable for hikers of all skill levels. The trail's popularity has grown steadily, and it is now one of Ouray's most popular attractions. The Perimeter Trail offers a variety of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking is, of course, the main draw, but the trail is also popular for trail running and birdwatching. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including deer, elk, and various species of birds. Several access points around town make it easy to hop on and off the trail at different points. Be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a camera to capture the stunning scenery. For a unique experience, consider hiking the trail at sunrise or sunset for truly unforgettable views.
