The Park Avenue Trail in Arches National Park offers a unique and awe-inspiring hiking experience. This easy-to-moderate trail winds through a narrow canyon, surrounded by towering sandstone monoliths that resemble skyscrapers, hence the name "Park Avenue." Prepare to be dwarfed by the sheer scale of these geological wonders as you traverse this iconic landscape. The Park Avenue area, like the rest of Arches National Park, was formed over millions of years through the erosion of sandstone layers. The towering fins and monoliths are remnants of these layers, sculpted by wind and water. The trail was officially named "Park Avenue" in the 1930s, inspired by the resemblance of the rock formations to the skyscrapers of New York City's famous avenue. Visitors can choose to hike the entire Park Avenue Trail, a 2-mile roundtrip hike that begins at the Courthouse Towers viewpoint and ends at the base of the canyon near the Fiery Furnace viewpoint. Alternatively, you can hike a shorter portion of the trail or simply enjoy the views from the Courthouse Towers viewpoint. The trail is relatively flat and well-maintained, making it suitable for hikers of all skill levels. While Arches National Park doesn't have specific culinary traditions, Moab, located just a few miles away, offers a variety of dining options. Consider packing water and snacks, especially during the hotter months.
Transportation
To reach the Park Avenue Trailhead, enter Arches National Park and drive along the main park road. The Courthouse Towers viewpoint, where the trail begins, is located approximately 2 miles from the park entrance. Parking is available at the viewpoint. The trail ends near the Fiery Furnace viewpoint, where you can either turn around and hike back or arrange for a shuttle or ride back to the Courthouse Towers parking area.
