Druid Arch Guide
Druid Arch: A Monumental Masterpiece in Canyonlands Guide
Prepare to be awestruck by Druid Arch, a towering sandstone formation located in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. This majestic arch, resembling a pair of ancient standing stones, is a popular destination for hikers seeking a challenging and rewarding adventure. The hike to Druid Arch offers stunning views of the surrounding canyons and mesas, and the arch itself is a truly unforgettable sight. Druid Arch, like the rest of Canyonlands, was formed over millions of years by the erosive forces of wind and water. The Needles District, in particular, is characterized by its towering sandstone spires, or "needles," which were sculpted by these forces. The arch's name is derived from its resemblance to the ancient stone circles of the Druids, adding a touch of mystique to this already impressive natural wonder. The primary activity is hiking to Druid Arch. The trail is approximately 11 miles roundtrip and is considered strenuous due to its length and elevation gain. The trail winds through canyons, over slickrock, and past other impressive rock formations. Be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and sturdy hiking shoes. Permits are required for overnight backpacking trips in the Needles District. Consider starting your hike early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day.
