Arches Scenic Drive Guide
Arches Scenic Drive: A Journey Through a Landscape Sculpted by Time Guide
Embark on an unforgettable journey through Arches National Park with the Arches Scenic Drive. This 36-mile roundtrip drive offers breathtaking views of over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, towering spires, and balanced rocks. Prepare to be amazed by the vibrant colors of the desert landscape, especially during sunrise and sunset when the light transforms the rocks into a fiery spectacle. The Arches Scenic Drive is a must-do for anyone visiting Moab, Utah. Arches National Park was established in 1929 to protect its unique geological formations. The park's arches were formed over millions of years through erosion and weathering of the Entrada Sandstone. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Ute and Paiute, who left behind petroglyphs and other evidence of their presence. Today, the park attracts visitors from around the world who come to marvel at its natural wonders. The Arches Scenic Drive provides access to numerous hiking trails, viewpoints, and picnic areas. Stop at Balanced Rock for a photo opportunity, hike to Delicate Arch for a stunning sunset view (be prepared for a strenuous hike!), or explore the Windows Section to see iconic arches like North Window and South Window. The park also offers ranger-led programs and stargazing opportunities. While Moab offers a variety of dining options, consider trying Southwestern cuisine, which is popular in the region and often features local ingredients like green chiles and prickly pear.
