Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory (The Domes) Guide
Escape to Paradise: Explore the Wonders of The Domes! Guide
Step into a world of botanical beauty at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, affectionately known as The Domes. This iconic Milwaukee landmark features three distinct glass domes, each housing a unique ecosystem: the Tropical Dome, the Desert Dome, and the Floral Show Dome. Prepare to be transported to lush rainforests, arid deserts, and vibrant floral displays, all under one roof. The Domes were designed by architect Donald Grieb and opened to the public in the mid-1960s. They were conceived as a way to showcase diverse plant life from around the world and provide educational opportunities for the community. The unique geodesic dome structure was a groundbreaking architectural achievement at the time, and The Domes have since become a symbol of Milwaukee. Each dome offers a unique experience. The Tropical Dome immerses you in a humid rainforest environment, complete with towering trees, exotic flowers, and cascading waterfalls. The Desert Dome showcases a collection of cacti, succulents, and other desert plants from around the globe. The Floral Show Dome features seasonal displays that change throughout the year, offering a constantly evolving spectacle of color and fragrance. Beyond the domes, Mitchell Park offers green spaces for picnics and relaxation.
