Tiger Creek Preserve Guide
Tiger Creek Preserve: A Natural Oasis in Central Florida Guide
Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Tiger Creek Preserve. This 4,987-acre preserve, managed by The Nature Conservancy, offers a sanctuary for diverse plant and animal life, including the endangered Florida scrub-jay. With miles of hiking trails winding through pristine scrub, hardwood swamp, and pine flatwoods, Tiger Creek Preserve is a haven for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and anyone seeking a peaceful retreat. Tiger Creek Preserve protects a critical section of the Lake Wales Ridge, a unique geological formation that supports a high concentration of rare and endemic species. The preserve's diverse habitats are a result of the ridge's varied topography and soil types. The Nature Conservancy has been working to restore and maintain these habitats through prescribed burns and other management techniques, ensuring the long-term survival of the preserve's unique biodiversity. Visitors to Tiger Creek Preserve can enjoy a variety of activities, including hiking, birdwatching, and nature photography. The preserve offers several well-marked trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels. Keep an eye out for Florida scrub-jays, gopher tortoises, and other wildlife. Remember to bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellent, and be prepared for uneven terrain. While there are no food vendors within the preserve, you can pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the designated picnic areas.
