Best Friends Animal Sanctuary: Where Compassion Meets Conservation Guide

Welcome to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals in the United States! Nestled in the stunning red rock canyons of Kanab, Utah, this isn't just a shelter; it's a haven, a home, and a testament to the power of compassion. Whether you're an animal lover, a volunteer at heart, or simply seeking a unique and heartwarming experience, Best Friends offers an unforgettable glimpse into a world where every animal is given a second chance. Prepare to be moved by the stories of resilience, the dedication of the staff, and the sheer joy of animals thriving in a safe and loving environment. Best Friends Animal Society was founded in 1984 with the mission to end the killing of animals in shelters. The Sanctuary itself began as a small operation, gradually expanding to its current sprawling 3,700 acres. It provides a safe haven for dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds, pigs, and other animals who have experienced hardship, neglect, or abandonment. The organization's impact extends far beyond the Sanctuary, as they actively work to promote no-kill initiatives across the country, advocating for policy changes and providing resources to shelters and rescue groups. A visit to Best Friends is more than just a tour; it's an immersive experience. You can take a guided tour of the various animal areas, learning about the individual stories of the residents and the work being done to rehabilitate and rehome them. Consider volunteering for a day or even a week, providing hands-on care to the animals. You can also participate in adoption events, attend workshops on animal care, or simply spend time observing the animals in their natural environment. Don't miss the opportunity to hike the scenic trails surrounding the Sanctuary, offering breathtaking views of the red rock landscape. The Sanctuary also has a cafe with vegetarian and vegan options.
