McCauley Hot Springs Guide
McCauley Hot Springs: Soak Your Cares Away in Nature's Embrace Guide
Escape the everyday and immerse yourself in the soothing warmth of McCauley Hot Springs, a natural geothermal oasis nestled in the Jemez Mountains. This isn't a fancy spa; it's a rustic, undeveloped hot spring where you can connect with nature and unwind in a truly authentic setting. Imagine soaking in warm, mineral-rich waters surrounded by towering trees and the sounds of the forest. It's a rejuvenating experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized. The Jemez Mountains are known for their geothermal activity, a result of the region's volcanic past. McCauley Hot Springs has been used for centuries by Native American tribes for its therapeutic properties. The hot springs were also used by early settlers and continue to be a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The springs are named after James H. McCauley, an early homesteader in the area. To reach McCauley Hot Springs, you'll need to embark on a moderate 3-mile roundtrip hike. The trail winds through a beautiful forest, offering stunning views along the way. Once you arrive at the hot springs, you can soak in the natural pools, which vary in temperature. Be sure to bring appropriate footwear for the hike and a towel for drying off. Remember to pack out everything you pack in and leave no trace behind. While there are no specific culinary traditions associated with the hot springs themselves, consider bringing a thermos of hot chocolate or tea to enjoy after your soak.
