Robbie's of Islamorada Guide
Robbie's of Islamorada: Where Tarpon Feeding is a Thrill! Guide
Robbie's of Islamorada is more than just a marina; it's an iconic Florida Keys experience. Imagine yourself standing on the dock, bucket of silvery baitfish in hand, surrounded by a frenzy of massive tarpon leaping from the water. This is Robbie's, a place where you can get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Beyond the tarpon, Robbie's offers a vibrant atmosphere with shops, restaurants, and watersport rentals, making it a must-visit destination for any traveler exploring the Keys. The story of Robbie's began with a rescued tarpon named "Old Hitler" (later renamed "Grandpa"). Robbie, the owner, nursed the injured fish back to health, and soon, other tarpon began gathering, drawn by the easy meal. This organic beginning blossomed into the popular attraction it is today. While the name "Old Hitler" is no longer used, the legacy of compassion and connection with nature remains at the heart of Robbie's. It's a testament to the power of a single act of kindness and how it can transform a place into something truly special. At Robbie's, the main attraction is undoubtedly feeding the tarpon. For a small fee, you can purchase a bucket of baitfish and experience the thrill of these powerful fish snatching the food right from your hand. But the fun doesn't stop there! You can also rent kayaks, paddleboards, or boats to explore the surrounding waters. Enjoy a delicious meal at the Hungry Tarpon Restaurant, known for its fresh seafood and waterfront views. Browse the unique shops for souvenirs and local crafts. And don't forget to keep an eye out for the resident pelicans, who are always eager to join in the feeding frenzy (though they're not supposed to!). The Hungry Tarpon Restaurant is famous for its "Trailer Trash Bloody Mary," a loaded Bloody Mary with a variety of toppings.
