Monkey Jungle Guide
Where Humans Are Caged and Monkeys Run Wild! Guide
Step into a world where the roles are reversed at Monkey Jungle, a unique wildlife park in Miami-Dade County. Here, you'll find yourself walking through caged pathways while hundreds of monkeys roam freely in a semi-natural habitat. Observe these fascinating primates up close as they swing, play, and interact with each other in a setting that mimics their natural environment. It's an unforgettable experience for animal lovers of all ages. Monkey Jungle was established in 1933 by Joseph DuMond, a zoologist who wanted to create a sanctuary where monkeys could live and thrive in a natural environment. He purchased a 30-acre plot of land in South Florida and introduced a small group of Java monkeys. Over time, the monkey population grew, and the park evolved into a popular tourist attraction. The park's unique design, with humans in cages and monkeys roaming free, has made it a beloved and quirky destination for decades. At Monkey Jungle, you can observe different species of monkeys, including Java monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and spider monkeys. Watch the daily monkey shows, where the primates demonstrate their intelligence and agility. Participate in feeding demonstrations, where you can offer the monkeys treats through the cage bars. Explore the various exhibits, including the Amazonian Rainforest and the Wild Monkey Swimming Hole. While Monkey Jungle doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, they offer snacks and refreshments for visitors to enjoy during their visit.
