International Car Forest of the Last Church Guide
Where Art Meets Automotive Apocalypse: The International Car Forest Guide
Prepare to be amazed by the International Car Forest of the Last Church, a truly unique and unforgettable art installation located just outside Goldfield, Nevada. This isn't your typical forest; instead of trees, you'll find over 40 cars, trucks, and buses, many stacked on top of each other, spray-painted with vibrant colors and intricate designs. It's a surreal and captivating landscape that blends the post-apocalyptic with the artistic, offering incredible photo opportunities and a chance to wander through a truly bizarre and beautiful creation. The Car Forest is the brainchild of Mark Rippie, also known as "Chad," and his friend, Michael "Mikey" Light. Chad, a self-taught artist, began creating the forest in the early 2000s. Over time, the collection grew, with contributions from other artists and car enthusiasts. The "Last Church" part of the name is a playful nod to the unconventional and almost spiritual experience of wandering through the metal jungle. It's a testament to the power of art to transform the mundane into something extraordinary. Visiting the Car Forest is all about exploration and discovery. Wander through the maze of vehicles, taking in the incredible artwork and finding your own unique perspectives. Bring your camera – you'll want to capture the sheer scale and artistry of the place. While there are no formal tours, the site is open to the public, and you're free to roam and explore at your own pace. Remember to wear sturdy shoes, as the terrain can be uneven, and be mindful of the environment. While Goldfield doesn't have a strong culinary tradition directly tied to the Car Forest, you can find classic American fare at local diners in town to fuel your artistic adventure.
