Step back in time millions of years at Dinosaur Ridge, a world-renowned paleontological site just outside of Golden, Colorado. This incredible outdoor museum offers a unique opportunity to see dinosaur fossils embedded in the very rocks where they were discovered. Imagine walking in the footsteps of giants, tracing the outlines of their footprints, and marveling at the bones of creatures that roamed this land long before humans. Dinosaur Ridge is a must-see for dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages, offering a fascinating glimpse into the prehistoric past. Dinosaur Ridge's history is deeply intertwined with the story of paleontology in the American West. The Morrison Formation, the rock layer exposed here, is famous for its abundance of Jurassic-period dinosaur fossils. Discoveries at Dinosaur Ridge in the late 19th century, including Stegosaurus and Apatosaurus, helped to establish the area as a paleontological hotspot. Today, the site continues to be a place of active research and education, preserving and interpreting these incredible fossils for future generations. Visitors can explore Dinosaur Ridge in a variety of ways. Take a self-guided tour along the Dinosaur Ridge Trail, a paved path that winds past numerous dinosaur tracks and fossil sites. Guided tours are also available, offering in-depth information and insights from knowledgeable interpreters. The visitor center features exhibits and displays that further enhance your understanding of the dinosaurs and the geological history of the area.
