Nestled in the heart of Western Maryland, this park offers a stunning landscape of rugged mountains, a shimmering 243-acre lake, and lush forests. Whether you're an avid outdoor enthusiast or simply seeking a tranquil retreat, Rocky Gap has something to captivate every visitor. The area was once a hub for coal mining and logging, leaving its mark on the landscape. The construction of Lake Habeeb in the 1970s transformed the area into the recreational haven it is today. The lake, named after a local doctor, provides a focal point for many of the park's activities. The park's development has carefully balanced preserving the natural environment with providing access for visitors to enjoy its wonders. Rocky Gap State Park is an outdoor adventure paradise. Hike or bike along miles of scenic trails, ranging from easy strolls to challenging climbs. Cast a line and try your luck at fishing in Lake Habeeb, known for its bass, trout, and catfish. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore the lake's tranquil waters. Relax on the sandy beach and soak up the sun. For those seeking a bit of luxury, the Rocky Gap Casino Resort offers golfing, spa treatments, and fine dining. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that calls the park home, including deer, black bears, and various bird species.
