Mossy Cave Trail: A Hidden Oasis in Bryce Canyon Guide

Escape the crowds and discover the enchanting Mossy Cave Trail, a short and easy hike located just outside the main section of Bryce Canyon National Park. This hidden gem offers a unique perspective on the park's beauty, featuring a mossy grotto, a small waterfall, and fascinating hoodoos. It's a perfect option for families with young children or anyone looking for a less strenuous hike. The Mossy Cave area has a unique history tied to water management in the region. The stream that flows through the area is actually a man-made irrigation canal, built in the late 19th century by early settlers to divert water from the East Fork of the Sevier River for agricultural purposes. The "cave" itself is more of a grotto, formed by the erosive power of the water flowing through the soft sandstone. The Mossy Cave Trail is a short, paved path that leads to the mossy grotto and waterfall. It's a great spot for taking photos and enjoying the cool, shaded environment. A short spur trail leads to a viewpoint overlooking some unique hoodoos. The trail is relatively flat and easy, making it suitable for all ages and abilities. While there are no specific culinary traditions associated with the Mossy Cave Trail, consider packing a picnic lunch to enjoy at the nearby Tropic Reservoir after your hike.
