Lone Peak Guide
Reach New Heights: Conquer Lone Peak for Breathtaking Views Guide
Lone Peak, the crown jewel of Big Sky Resort, is a must-see for any adventurous traveler visiting the Bozeman area. Standing at 11,166 feet, this majestic mountain offers unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding Gallatin Range and beyond. Whether you're an avid skier, a seasoned hiker, or simply seeking breathtaking scenery, Lone Peak promises an unforgettable experience. Lone Peak's history is intertwined with the development of Big Sky Resort. The vision of Chet Huntley, a renowned NBC news anchor, Big Sky Resort was conceived in the early 1970s as a world-class ski destination. Lone Peak quickly became the resort's iconic symbol, attracting skiers and snowboarders from around the globe. The construction of the Lone Peak Tram in 1995 further solidified its status as a premier mountain experience. Activities on Lone Peak vary depending on the season. In winter, it's a haven for expert skiers and snowboarders, offering challenging terrain and unparalleled powder. The Lone Peak Tram provides access to the summit, where you can carve down steep chutes and enjoy breathtaking views. In summer, hiking trails wind their way up the mountain, offering stunning vistas and opportunities for wildlife viewing. The tram also operates in the summer, allowing visitors to experience the summit without the strenuous hike. While there are dining options at the top, Lone Peak itself doesn't have a unique culinary tradition.
