Tuff Canyon's story begins millions of years ago with intense volcanic activity. Ash and other volcanic debris were deposited in thick layers, forming the "tuff" rock that gives the canyon its name. Over time, water eroded the soft tuff, creating the dramatic canyon we see today. The canyon provides a glimpse into the geological forces that have shaped the Big Bend landscape. The main activity at Tuff Canyon is exploring the canyon itself. A short, paved trail leads to an overlook with stunning views. You can also walk down into the canyon bed and explore the unique rock formations up close. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, as the canyon floor can be uneven. The canyon is a great spot for photography and nature observation. While Tuff Canyon itself doesn't have specific culinary traditions, the nearby Rio Grande Village offers picnic areas where you can enjoy your own food and drinks.
