Acadia National Park Guide
Where the Mountains Meet the Sea: Discover Acadia National Park Guide
Welcome to Acadia National Park, a stunning coastal park located on Mount Desert Island in Maine. This park offers a unique blend of rugged coastline, granite peaks, woodlands, and lakes. It's a place where you can hike to the summit of Cadillac Mountain for sunrise, explore historic carriage roads, and enjoy the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Acadia is a true gem of the National Park System. Acadia's history dates back thousands of years to the Wabanaki people, who have a deep connection to the land. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, wealthy families, including the Rockefellers, began to build summer homes in the area. John D. Rockefeller Jr. played a significant role in shaping the park by funding the construction of the park's extensive carriage road system. Acadia was officially established as a national park in 1919. Acadia National Park offers a diverse range of activities. Hiking is a popular choice, with trails for all skill levels. The carriage roads are perfect for biking and walking. You can also enjoy rock climbing, birdwatching, kayaking, and whale watching tours. Don't miss the opportunity to visit Bass Harbor Head Light, a picturesque lighthouse perched on a rocky cliff. In the fall, the park's foliage is spectacular.
