Commissioned by Empress Elizabeth of Russia in 1744 and designed by the renowned architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the Mariyinsky Palace was completed in 1752. It was named after Empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Alexander II, who ordered its reconstruction in the 19th century. Throughout its history, the palace has served as a residence for visiting dignitaries and a venue for important state events. It has witnessed significant moments in Ukrainian history and continues to play a vital role in the country's political landscape. Visitors can stroll through the beautiful Mariyinsky Park surrounding the palace, enjoying the manicured gardens, fountains, and sculptures. While access to the palace interior is limited, you can admire its elegant Baroque architecture from the outside. Check for special events or open days that may offer a chance to tour the interior.
