Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and discover the tranquil oasis of Bitts Park, Carlisle's premier green space. Situated on the banks of the River Eden, this expansive park offers something for everyone, from families seeking a fun day out to individuals looking for a peaceful retreat. With its lush lawns, scenic riverside walks, and a variety of recreational facilities, Bitts Park is the perfect place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the great outdoors. Bitts Park has a rich history, evolving from a former industrial site to the vibrant park we know today. Originally, the area was used for manufacturing and industry, but in the early 20th century, it was transformed into a public park. Over the years, Bitts Park has undergone several improvements and expansions, adding new features and amenities to enhance the visitor experience. It has become a beloved community hub, hosting numerous events, festivals, and activities throughout the year. Bitts Park offers a wide range of activities to suit all ages and interests. Children will love the adventure playground, complete with slides, swings, and climbing frames. Take a leisurely stroll along the riverside paths, enjoying the scenic views and the fresh air. Pack a picnic and relax on the grassy lawns, or grab a bite to eat at the park's cafe. For the more active, there are sports pitches, a skate park, and a splash pad (seasonal). While there isn't a specific culinary tradition associated with the park itself, you can find plenty of cafes and restaurants in nearby Carlisle city center offering a variety of cuisines.
