Walking through its marble streets, you can almost hear the echoes of the bustling marketplace, the orations in the grand theater, and the daily lives of the citizens who once called this place home. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a must-see for history buffs and anyone interested in ancient civilizations. Founded in the 10th century BC, Ephesus flourished under Roman rule, becoming a major commercial center and the capital of the Roman province of Asia. The city was renowned for its Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and its impressive library, the Library of Celsus. Ephesus also played a significant role in early Christianity, with Saint Paul preaching here and the city being home to one of the Seven Churches of Asia mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Visitors can explore the magnificent Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, the Temple of Hadrian, the Terrace Houses (with their stunning mosaics and frescoes), and the Roman baths. Walking along the Curetes Street, you'll pass by numerous shops, temples, and public buildings, imagining life in this vibrant ancient city.
