Hadrian's Gate Guide
Step Through History: Hadrian's Gate - A Roman Triumph in Antalya Guide
Hadrian's Gate, also known as Üçkapılar (Three Gates), is a magnificent Roman triumphal arch located in Antalya's historic Kaleiçi district. This impressive structure stands as a testament to the city's rich past and is a must-see for any visitor interested in history and architecture. Walking through its arches is like stepping back in time to the Roman era. Constructed in 130 AD to commemorate the visit of the Roman Emperor Hadrian to Attalia (present-day Antalya), the gate is a remarkable example of Roman architecture. It is built of white marble and features three arched gateways, each adorned with intricate carvings and Corinthian columns. The gate was originally part of the city walls and served as a grand entrance to the city. For many years, the gate was hidden within the city walls, only to be rediscovered during restoration work. Today, visitors can walk through Hadrian's Gate and admire its impressive architecture. The surrounding area is filled with charming shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it a perfect place to explore after visiting the gate. You can also take guided tours to learn more about the history and significance of this iconic landmark. While the area around Hadrian's Gate offers a variety of dining options, it's a great opportunity to sample traditional Turkish cuisine in the nearby restaurants of Kaleiçi.
