The history of the Alaçatı Windmills dates back to the 19th century when they were essential for grinding wheat and providing flour to the local community. Alaçatı, with its consistent winds, was an ideal location for these structures. Over time, as technology advanced, the windmills fell into disuse and disrepair. Thankfully, in recent years, many have been lovingly restored, preserving a vital piece of Alaçatı's cultural identity. Today, some windmills have been transformed into charming cafes, restaurants, and even boutique hotels, offering a unique and immersive experience. Visiting the Alaçatı Windmills is a must-do for any traveler to the region. Stroll around the windmills, taking in the panoramic views of the town and the sea. Capture stunning photographs, especially during sunset when the golden light bathes the windmills in a warm glow. Many of the surrounding cafes offer traditional Turkish coffee and pastries, allowing you to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Alaçatı is also known for its vibrant culinary scene, with fresh seafood and local produce taking center stage. Be sure to try the "kumru," a local sandwich filled with cheese, tomatoes, and peppers, or indulge in a delicious seafood dinner at one of the many waterfront restaurants.
