More than just a picturesque fishing port, Kélibia is a gateway to the Mediterranean, offering a captivating blend of ancient history, bustling maritime activity, and delicious seafood. Prepare to be charmed by the colorful boats, the scent of the sea, and the echoes of centuries past. The history of Kélibia stretches back to Punic times, with evidence of Roman and Vandal settlements. The imposing Kélibia Fortress, perched atop a hill overlooking the port, stands as a testament to the region's strategic importance throughout history. Originally built by the Romans, it was later fortified by the Aghlabids and the Spanish, each leaving their mark on its architecture. Exploring the fortress offers panoramic views of the coastline and a glimpse into the region's turbulent past. At Port de Kélibia, you can immerse yourself in the local culture by watching the fishermen bring in their daily catch, haggling for fresh seafood at the market, or simply strolling along the harbor, soaking in the atmosphere. Take a boat trip to explore the nearby islands, including the protected Zembra and Zembretta National Park, a haven for seabirds and marine life. And of course, no visit to Kélibia is complete without indulging in the region's culinary delights. The town is renowned for its fresh seafood, particularly grilled fish, couscous with seafood, and the local specialty, "poisson complet" (whole fish). Many restaurants line the port, offering stunning views and delicious meals.
