Surin Islands National Park Guide
Surin Islands: Thailand's Underwater Paradise Guide
Escape to the pristine beauty of Surin Islands National Park, an archipelago renowned for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and abundant marine life. Located in the Andaman Sea, this park is a haven for snorkelers and divers seeking an unforgettable underwater adventure. Imagine swimming alongside colorful fish, graceful sea turtles, and maybe even a majestic manta ray. Above the surface, you'll find secluded beaches, lush rainforests, and a peaceful atmosphere that will rejuvenate your soul. The Surin Islands are relatively remote, which has helped preserve their natural beauty. The park was established in 1981 and consists of five islands: Ko Surin Nuea, Ko Surin Tai, Ko Ri, Ko Kai, and Ko Klang. The islands are also home to the Moken people, also known as "sea gypsies," who have a unique culture and way of life closely tied to the sea. Visiting the Moken village on Ko Surin Tai offers a glimpse into their traditional lifestyle. The main draw of the Surin Islands is undoubtedly the snorkeling and diving. Richelieu Rock, located just east of the islands, is considered one of the best dive sites in Thailand, famous for its diverse marine life, including whale sharks. Other popular snorkeling spots include Ao Mae Yai and Ao Chong Khad. Beyond the underwater world, you can relax on the beaches, hike through the rainforest, or visit the Moken village. While there are limited dining options on the islands, you can find simple Thai dishes and fresh seafood at the park's restaurant or at the Moken village.
