Khao Laem Ya - Mu Ko Samet National Park Guide

Khao Laem Ya: Coastal Beauty and Island Views Guide

Escape the bustling beaches and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Khao Laem Ya - Mu Ko Samet National Park. This protected area encompasses not only the mainland headland of Khao Laem Ya but also the stunning Mu Ko Samet archipelago, including Ko Samet itself. Prepare to be captivated by dramatic coastal scenery, pristine beaches, and lush forests teeming with wildlife. It's a perfect day trip for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility. The park was established in 1981 to protect the diverse ecosystems of the area. Khao Laem Ya, the mainland portion, offers panoramic views of the coastline and surrounding islands. The islands themselves boast a rich history, having served as a refuge for pirates and fishermen for centuries. The name "Samet" comes from the Samet trees (cajeput trees) that are abundant on the island. There's plenty to do within the park. Hike to the Khao Laem Ya viewpoint for breathtaking vistas. Explore the various beaches, such as Ao Phrao, known for its calm waters and upscale resorts. Snorkel or dive in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the islands to discover vibrant coral reefs and marine life. Camping is also permitted in designated areas, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural surroundings. While the park itself doesn't have specific culinary traditions, you can find restaurants and food stalls offering delicious Thai cuisine near the park entrance and on the beaches within the park.
