Haad Rin Beach: Where the Full Moon Rises and the Party Never Ends Guide

Welcome to Haad Rin Beach, the undisputed epicenter of Ko Phangan's legendary Full Moon Party. This crescent-shaped stretch of white sand is more than just a beach; it's a global icon, a magnet for partygoers seeking an unforgettable night of music, dancing, and revelry under the tropical moonlight. Imagine yourself surrounded by thousands of people from all corners of the world, all united by the shared experience of the Full Moon Party, the rhythmic pulse of electronic music vibrating through your soul. Haad Rin's fame is inextricably linked to the Full Moon Party, which began in the mid-1980s as a small gathering of backpackers. Over the years, it has grown into a massive event, attracting tens of thousands of people each month. While the Full Moon Party is the main draw, Haad Rin also has a history as a popular destination for travelers seeking a laid-back beach vibe during the day. The beach itself is stunning, with soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The main activity at Haad Rin Beach is, of course, attending the Full Moon Party. However, even outside of the Full Moon Party, there's plenty to do. You can swim in the ocean, sunbathe on the beach, try your hand at water sports, or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere. There are also numerous bars and restaurants along the beach, offering a wide range of food and drinks. While not a specific culinary tradition, Haad Rin offers a diverse selection of international cuisine to cater to the international crowd. You'll find everything from Thai street food to Western comfort food.

Transportation

During the Full Moon Party, transportation to Haad Rin is readily available from all over Ko Phangan. Songthaews (shared taxis) are the most common mode of transport. Be prepared to negotiate the price, and expect to pay more during the Full Moon Party. Outside of the Full Moon Party, songthaews are still available, but less frequent. You can also rent a scooter or car, but be aware that the roads can be busy and dangerous, especially during the Full Moon Party.
