Huay Tung Tao Lake Guide

Giant Straw Statues and Lakeside Relaxation: A Perfect Day Trip Guide

Escape the city bustle and unwind at Huay Tung Tao Lake, a scenic reservoir nestled at the foot of Doi Suthep mountain. This popular recreational area offers a tranquil escape with stunning views, delicious food, and unique photo opportunities. It's a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike looking to relax, enjoy nature, and soak up the laid-back Chiang Mai vibe. Huay Tung Tao Lake is an artificial reservoir created to provide irrigation for the surrounding agricultural land. Over time, it has evolved into a popular recreational area, known for its bamboo restaurants lining the shore and its iconic giant straw sculptures. These sculptures, which include King Kong, various animals, and even superheroes, have become a major draw for visitors seeking unique photo opportunities. Spend the day relaxing in one of the many bamboo restaurants lining the lake, enjoying delicious Thai food and refreshing drinks. Rent a bicycle and cycle around the lake, taking in the scenic views. Take a dip in the lake (although swimming is not always recommended due to water quality). Of course, don't forget to snap some photos with the giant straw sculptures! The restaurants around Huay Tung Tao specialize in fresh seafood and traditional Thai dishes. Try the grilled fish, Tom Yum soup, or Pad See Ew.
