Chiang Mai City Arts & Culture Centre Guide
Unveiling Lanna Heritage: Immerse Yourself in Art and History Guide
Delve into the rich history and vibrant culture of Northern Thailand at the Chiang Mai City Arts & Culture Centre. Housed in a beautifully restored former provincial administration building, this museum offers a comprehensive overview of the Lanna Kingdom, its art, traditions, and the evolution of Chiang Mai into the modern city it is today. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the region. The building itself has a significant history, serving as the administrative center of Chiang Mai province for many years. Its architecture reflects a blend of colonial and traditional Lanna styles. The Centre's exhibits trace the history of the Lanna Kingdom from its founding in the 13th century, through its periods of independence and influence, to its eventual incorporation into Siam (modern-day Thailand). You'll learn about the Lanna language, religion, art, and social structures. Explore the various exhibits showcasing Lanna art, including textiles, wood carvings, and religious artifacts. Learn about the history of Chiang Mai through interactive displays and informative panels. The Centre also hosts temporary exhibitions featuring contemporary art and cultural performances. While the Centre doesn't have a specific culinary focus, its central location means you're surrounded by fantastic restaurants and street food stalls offering authentic Northern Thai cuisine like Khao Soi and Sai Oua (Northern Thai sausage).
