Kendwa Village: Sunsets, Serenity, and Beach Parties Guide

Kendwa Village, located on the northwestern coast of Zanzibar, is renowned for its stunning sunsets, pristine beaches, and vibrant atmosphere. Unlike some of the other beaches on the island, Kendwa experiences minimal tidal changes, making it ideal for swimming and water sports throughout the day. The village offers a mix of laid-back relaxation and lively entertainment, attracting a diverse crowd of travelers. Kendwa, like many coastal villages in Zanzibar, has a history rooted in fishing and agriculture. However, in recent decades, tourism has become a major driver of the local economy. The village has seen significant development, with the construction of hotels, restaurants, and other tourist facilities. Despite this growth, Kendwa has managed to retain much of its charm and authenticity, offering visitors a glimpse into the local way of life. Kendwa offers a variety of activities to suit all tastes. Relax on the beach, swim in the crystal-clear waters, or try snorkeling, diving, or kayaking. Take a sunset cruise on a traditional dhow, explore the nearby coral reefs, or visit the Mnemba Atoll for some of the best diving in Zanzibar. Kendwa is also known for its full moon parties, which are held monthly and attract revelers from all over the island. For a taste of local cuisine, sample fresh seafood at one of the beachside restaurants, or venture into the village to try traditional Zanzibari dishes.

Transportation

The most common way to reach Kendwa is by taxi or private transfer from Zanzibar's airport or Stone Town. Dala-dalas (local minibuses) also operate between Stone Town and Kendwa, offering a more budget-friendly option, but they can be crowded and less comfortable. From Stone Town, look for Dala-dalas heading towards the north of the island. Confirm with the driver that they are going to Kendwa before boarding.
