Kendwa Beach Guide
Kendwa Beach: Zanzibar's Paradise Found Guide
Welcome to Kendwa Beach, a stunning stretch of white sand on the northwest coast of Zanzibar, Tanzania. Known for its calm, turquoise waters and vibrant atmosphere, Kendwa offers a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement. Unlike some other beaches on the island, Kendwa experiences minimal tidal changes, making it ideal for swimming and water sports throughout the day. Whether you're seeking a tranquil escape or an action-packed adventure, Kendwa Beach promises an unforgettable experience. While Kendwa doesn't boast a rich historical narrative like Stone Town, its significance lies in its natural beauty and its role in Zanzibar's tourism industry. The area was once a quiet fishing village, but its pristine beach and favorable conditions have transformed it into a popular destination for travelers from around the globe. The development has been relatively sustainable, with many locally owned businesses contributing to the area's unique charm. Kendwa offers a plethora of activities to suit every taste. Relax on the beach and soak up the sun, take a refreshing dip in the ocean, or try your hand at various water sports like snorkeling, diving, and jet skiing. Sunset cruises are a must-do, offering breathtaking views of the sun dipping below the horizon. Kendwa is also known for its lively Full Moon Parties, attracting revelers from all over the island. For a taste of local cuisine, numerous restaurants and beach bars offer fresh seafood and traditional Zanzibari dishes. Don't miss the opportunity to try grilled fish, octopus curry, or Zanzibar pizza.
Transportation
The most common way to reach Kendwa is by taxi or private transfer from Zanzibar's Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) or Stone Town. Dala-dalas (local buses) also operate from Stone Town to Nungwi, a nearby village, from where you can take a short taxi ride to Kendwa. Be prepared for a bumpy ride if you choose the dala-dala!
