Mnarani Natural Aquarium: Swim with Sea Turtles in Zanzibar Guide
Discover the Mnarani Natural Aquarium, a unique conservation project located in Nungwi, on the northern tip of Zanzibar. This small, natural lagoon is home to a population of endangered green sea turtles. The aquarium provides a safe haven for these magnificent creatures, rescuing injured turtles and nurturing them until they are ready to be released back into the wild. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn about sea turtle conservation and get up close and personal with these gentle giants. The Mnarani Natural Aquarium was established by a local community group with the aim of protecting and rehabilitating sea turtles. The project relies on donations and entrance fees to fund its conservation efforts. The turtles are rescued from various threats, including entanglement in fishing nets and habitat destruction. The aquarium provides them with a safe environment to heal and grow before being released back into the ocean. At Mnarani Natural Aquarium, you can observe the sea turtles in their natural lagoon environment. You can also participate in feeding the turtles and even swim with them in the lagoon (under supervision). It's an unforgettable experience to interact with these amazing creatures. The aquarium also provides educational information about sea turtle conservation and the threats they face. There is a small shop selling souvenirs and crafts made by local artisans.
