Ci'en Pagoda, perched atop Shabalan Mountain, offers breathtaking panoramic views of Sun Moon Lake and the surrounding landscape. Construction began in 1969 and was completed in 1971. The name "Ci'en" translates to "filial piety," reflecting the President's devotion. The pagoda's design incorporates traditional Chinese architectural elements, and its height allows for unobstructed views of the entire lake area. Inside, you'll find a bell that was originally intended to be rung every day, but is now only rung on special occasions. Visitors can climb the pagoda's interior stairs to reach the top level, where they can enjoy the most spectacular views. The surrounding area also offers pleasant walking trails and picnic spots. Transportation
From Sun Moon Lake Visitor Center, you can take the Sun Moon Lake Sightseeing Bus (環湖巴士) to Ci'en Pagoda stop. Alternatively, you can rent a scooter or bicycle and ride to the pagoda. The road is uphill, so be prepared for a bit of a climb. Taxis are also available.
